This is an ad for Gap jeans that i found while looking at other Gap ads. I think that Gap has a very creative yet distinctive approach to their ads. This ad inparticular lends to the style of the psychadelic era but brings it into today's style. The whole ad takes the shade of blue to represent the blue jeans that they are advertising. The images of the girls are greyed out to push the jeans into the forefront of the ad. The writing and the designs at the bottom look like someone drew them in their notebook so, it adds a playful and youthful look to coordinate with the feeling of wearing the jeans. Also at the top of the ad there is a bubble of text that looks like it came straight out of the 70's! i feel that this is a very youthful and fun ad.

These are part of an ad campaign for Converse shoes. The images integrate the shoes with the people as their clothing. The first photo is very feminine and aimed towards woman. The second image is darker. In that photo his tattoo blends great with the skulls on the shoe. The shoes seem to set the tone for the ads. This ad campaign is an interesting one in that they make you want to know more about whats going on in them. Since the image is cropped and you only see the top part it only makes you want to see more of what is going on. I think that these are very sucessful advertisements. They are interesting, informative and fun.

This is an ad for Tab energy drink. I like all the pink that is used. The hues of pink are different enough to look great but not to over power the "scene." The photo is cropped so that you cannot see the woman's face or who she is with so it could be any woman with any man. The text is over the photo but it doesnt seem to interfere with it. The product placement at the bottom right hand corner stays away from everything else in the ad and has its own area of the page. i have never tried this product but i think that it comes in a cute package!

These are ads for Apple's Ipod. i think that these are very effective and fun to look at. The use of the flat colored background makes the black silhoutte of the figure pop from the page. Also making the only detailed thing in the picture the ipod itself, really highlights the product. I love how there are several different kinds poses and figures. Because the figures are put into a position where they look like they are dancing, it gives the whole piece movement. The use of the varied flat color backgrounds and the variety of figures makes this ad campaign a great one!
i did not see these in person but, i think they would be great to see in a larger view. These ads have great energy!

I love ketchup so, if you put it on those fries i might eat them! :) this ad for heinz ketchup is quite a clever one. i found it in my better homes and gardens magazine. i think that the blandness of the whole image really makes the little red bottle pop out at the bottom. its making a statement that without ketchup even this meal of steak and fries would be boring. i really appreciate the cardboard cut outs and the way they are set on the plate like a meal. its very playful and whimsical. when i look at this ad i think of when i was a child and we used to play with fake food. no one wants to eat something that tastes like that! So this ad is effectively telling its audience with minimal words that "without" ketchup food tastes like cardboard.

This is an Oldsmobile ad from the 1950's and it embodies the style of Amrican kitsch . It has some great images going on in it that draw you eye all over the page. The rocket leads you to look at the top of the ad while the image of the "88" brings your focus down to the bottom where you can read about the car. Its handwritten fonts, muted colors and drawn images rather than photos make it the epitome of this era. It seems odd now a days to have an ad for a car with out an actual photo of the car they are selling. i dont think i have ever seen a drawn image of a Chevy Trailblazer or a Cadillac Escalade. This ad makes me want to go out and buy an "88" Olds!!! ;)

I just got done reading the lecture- the couple on the rocket was also in the ad for the needles! i was shocked to see that! I chose this ad and added it to my blog before i ever read anything for this week's American kitsch assignment. Crazy!!

This is an ad for the Mini Cooper. I thought that these were a clever approach to selling cars. You seldom see a car ad that distorts the car they are trying to sell. Turning the minis into a cheese grader and sardine catch your interest upon first glance. These images make you imagine what else you can turn a mini cooper into. The black background is broken up by the lights of the cars and frame the center image making it pop from the page. This is a great campaign and i want to see more of what you can turn a mini cooper into!
