This is an Oldsmobile ad from the 1950's and it embodies the style of Amrican kitsch . It has some great images going on in it that draw you eye all over the page. The rocket leads you to look at the top of the ad while the image of the "88" brings your focus down to the bottom where you can read about the car. Its handwritten fonts, muted colors and drawn images rather than photos make it the epitome of this era. It seems odd now a days to have an ad for a car with out an actual photo of the car they are selling. i dont think i have ever seen a drawn image of a Chevy Trailblazer or a Cadillac Escalade. This ad makes me want to go out and buy an "88" Olds!!! ;)I just got done reading the lecture- the couple on the rocket was also in the ad for the needles! i was shocked to see that! I chose this ad and added it to my blog before i ever read anything for this week's American kitsch assignment. Crazy!!

Coincidence or not, this image is perfect for this week. Some designer should take this approach for a current car model. It would be awfully appealing.
